FAQ

How long and how frequent are sessions?

Sessions are one hour long and typically occur once a week. As you begin to heal, regulate your nervous system, and feel better, we will shift to every other week, and eventually less frequently, tapering to meet your needs.

Will you give me a mental health diagnosis?

If you are utilizing health insurance, insurance companies require a clinical diagnosis for billing purposes. In these cases, I frequently utilize PTSD or Adjustment Disorder if they accurately fit your situation. If you are paying out-of-pocket, I do not assign a diagnosis unless you specifically request one out of your own curiosity.

We live in a small town. How do I know my sessions are confidential?

Living in the Monadnock region can feel like a beautiful but small fishbowl. I practice the utmost care regarding your privacy. Everything shared in my office remains strictly between us. If we happen to cross paths in public, I will always take my cue from you; it is entirely your choice whether you would like to say hello or maintain your privacy.

How do I find a therapist who is the "right fit" for me?

The therapeutic relationship is the single greatest predictor of successful healing. You will intuitively know if the dynamic feels safe and right, though it can sometimes take a couple of sessions to be sure. At the end of our very first hour together, I will check in and ask if you would like to return, even if that means trying another session to be sure.
